The New Kid at Work
Disney has found success turning to some of its more successful film brands and bringing them to television for original content. Marvel has WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki while from Star Wars is The Mandalorian. Now the entertainment juggernaut is turning to Pixar for one of its latest series.
Monsters at Work is the first long-form television series based off of a Pixar property to debut on Disney’s streaming service. It is a spin-off of the Monsters, Inc. franchise and a sequel to Monsters, Inc. Monstropolis is transitioning from fear to laughter as its primary energy source. A recent scare graduate, Tylor Tuskmon, is adjusting to this change and works as a mechanic on the facilities team. Despite the new power source and a pivot from what he went to school for, Tylor still dreams of working side by side with his idols, Mike Wazowski and Sulley one day.
Stream the premiere of Monsters at Work this Wednesday, July 7, on Disney+.
Who You Gonna Call?
Speaking of television spin-offs of films, Wellington Paranormal was the first TV series from the What We Do in the Shadows franchise. It was created by Jemaine Clement and Taiki Waititi and first aired in New Zealand. Thanks to The CW, the first season is coming stateside to a new audience.
The show’s leads, Officers Minogue and O’Leary, first appeared in the film as law enforcement officials following up on a noise disturbance at the vampires’ home. Vampires are only the tip of the iceberg with regards to paranormal activity in the capital of New Zealand so Minogue and O’Leary, along with supervisor Sergeant Maaka, investigate all the supernatural occurrences in the city.
The CW series premiere of Wellington Paranormal will be Sunday, July 11. Episodes will be available on HBO Max the day after airing.
For All the Marbles
Europe’s continental football championship has been taking place throughout much of June. It is probably the second most watched international football competition behind the World Cup. What originally began with 24 teams has been whittled down to four.
Only Italy, England, Denmark, and Spain remain in the hunt to be champion. Early this week, we’ll find out which two will go on to play in the finals of the knockout stage. Can traditional powerhouses, the Azzurri or La Furia Roja take home the trophy? Will England capitalize on their home pitch advantage? Can the Danes cap off their Cinderella run with a happy ending? The answer to these questions will be revealed during the championship match.
Watch the Euro 2020 final this Sunday, July 11, on ESPN.
