We’re all expecting Ryan Reynolds to join the MCU at some point–Deadpool is a huge hit after all–but I don’t think we expected the first crossover to take place in a YouTube commercial spot. Released today on Ryan Reynolds’ YouTube, a trailer for the upcoming film Free Guy, wrapped in a skit was presented via a fake Deadpool account.
The new video runs four and a half minutes long and features everyone’s favorite rock superhero Korg who first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. It’s no coincidence Korg, played by Taika Waititi, is also the villain in Free Guy. The clip features plenty of fourth-wall breaking jokes, including Reynolds pointing out Free Guy is “fun in a last days of Fox fire sale kind of way.” 21st Century Fox was purchased by Disney back in 2017.
Originally set for release July 20th, 2020, Free Guy is now set for release August 13, 2021. You can watch the new trailer/skit below.
MCU fans will likely need to wait a bit longer for any Deadpool 3 news, although this might be the most holistic way to introduce Deadpool to the MCU.
Now, how long before someone picks apart this set and finds an MCU easter egg?
