‘Ultra City Smiths’ trailer: Gritty noir meets baby dolls

Steve Conrad and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios team up for Ultra City Smiths on AMC+

Last month, AMC+ announced some of the new programming they would have available on their streaming service in July to coincide with next week’s Comic-Con@Home. Included in the news was the upcoming stop-motion animated series, Ultra City Smiths.

Today the official trailer was released capturing the gritty noir tone. The story follows two detectives trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of one of Ultra City’s most wealthy and influential citizens. During their case, the two detectives rally to fight against their hometown’s corruption. As you can see in the video, the use of baby dolls evokes an even darker and creepier feel for such a story.

Ultra City Smiths boasts an all-star cast including Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Alia Shawkat, Tim Meadows, Terry O’Quinn, Debra Winger, Luis Guzmán, Julian Barratt, Sunita Mani, Tom Waits, Jimmi Simpson, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, John C. Reilly, Bebe Neuwirth, Jason Mantzoukas, Damon Herriman, Melissa as Sister Mary Margaret, Kurtwood Smith, Tim Heidecker, Chris Conrad, and Hana Mae Lee.

It is created by Steve Conrad and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The first two episodes will premiere Thursday, July 22, on AMC+ with subsequent episodes dropping weekly every Thursday.
