‘Y: The Last Man’ TV series reveals first full trailer

The series will premiere on FX on Hulu September 13.

After over a decade in limbo/development, Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s incredible comic series Y: The Last Man is finally getting its own television series.

With the premiere a little over a month away (September 13), the first full trailer was revealed on Friday, which thus far feels like a pitch perfect adaptation.

Ironically set to a slowed down version of James Brown’s It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World, we get a glimpse of all mammals with a Y chromosome dying a violent death for Yorik (played by Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey Ampersand. Whether you’ve read the comic or not (and shame on you if you haven’t), then you know what a crazy journey the pair are about to embark on in a world that’s completely turned upside down.

We also see quite a bit of my two absolute favorite casting choices: Diane Lane as President Brown and Ashley Romans as Agent 355.

If you’re a regular AIPT reader and/or have excellent taste in television, then you might remember Romans from her brilliant turn as Tabitha Hutter in NOS4A2. Both she and Lane are so perfectly matched with their characters that it feels like Vaughan somehow saw the future and wrote the roles for them twenty years ago.

'Y: The Last Man' TV series reveals first full trailer

Y: The Last Man premieres September 13 on FX on Hulu, which I was worried was an add on that you had to pay for. Thankfully it comes standard with a Hulu subscription.

But even if it didn’t, it would be hard not to fork over the extra dough for a series with so much potential (and incredible source material) to be great.
