Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 08/23/2021

A pair of comedies and a post-apocalyptic science fiction drama.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include a pair of comedies and a post-apocalyptic science fiction drama. Pop culture centered comedy, The Other Two, returns for a new season at a new home. Brother’s clash on the new season of See. Then Pen15 heads down south for an animated adventure.

The Next Big Star

The Other Two premiered on Comedy Central to critical acclaim. The show had a satirical look at pop culture and celebrity as a brother and sister, who both aspired to be entertainers, cope with their younger sibling’s rise to internet fame.

The second season is set to debut this week but the show has found a new home on HBO Max. It seems the younger Dubek child, has retired from show business and left for a normal life and to go to college. This time around, Brooke and Cary witness another member of their family skyrocket in popularity: their mother. The Dubek matriarch becomes a star in large part due to her catch-phrase based talk show. Now, the less famous Dubek siblings must watch another person close to them receive the attention they adore.

The first two episodes of The Other Two will air Thursday, August 26, on HBO Max.

Clash of Titans

In the post-apocalyptic world of See, a virus decimated the human race leaving only about two million people. Those who survived lost the sense of sight and centuries later, civilization continues and has adjusted to the world without vision. However, people who can see make a comeback and Baba Voss (Jason Momoa) of the Alkenny tribe is in the middle of all the drama.

In the new season, Dave Bautista joins the cast and plays Baba’s brother, Edo. There’s no love lost between these siblings and Edo wants to weaponize those who can see to in order to bring his clan into dominance. Just watching these two actors battle it out is enough enticement to watch.

Season 2 of See premieres Friday, August 27, on Apple TV+.

Cartoon Road Trip

Junior high is rough and Pen15 captures all the awkwardness of that age in hilarious fashion. Though we’re still waiting for the second half of season two to drop, we’re treated with a special animated episode this week.

Anna and Maya take their antics on the road and head down to Florida. The beautiful people at the beach can make insecurities even bigger and more pronounced, especially after getting one of those touristy caricature drawings. That doesn’t stop the girls from trying to pick up cute boys.

The Pen15 animated special, “Jacuzzi” airs Friday, August 27 on Hulu.
