On Friday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Lewis Pullman will play the lead role in New Line’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s horror classic, Salem’s Lot.
Pullman will play Ben Mears, who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to write a novel. His writing plans get derailed a bit when he discovers that a vampire has taken up residence and begins turning people.
While I know everyone is sick of vampires at this point, please believe me when I say that King’s novel is absolutely worth your time. It’s one of those books that gets under your skin and refuses to make things easy as the narrative drives toward its destructive conclusion.
Salem’s Lot also been adapted two times for television, both of which were fairly well-received. (A a sequel film was made entitled A Return to Salem’s Lot, but we don’t talk about that one).
This role will be the biggest of Lewis Pullman’s young career thus far, although he’s also got a big part in the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Let’s hope both characters end up being breakout roles of him…and that he’s got what it takes to fight back against a centuries old evil.
