Insomniac’s ‘Wolverine’ PS5 trailer features three key easter eggs

The new ‘Wolverine’ trailer is here and the easter eggs may suggest the game is set in Madripoor.

The Sony PlayStation Showcase 2021 featured a treasure trove of incredible video game reveals today, including a new video of God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine from Insomniac Games. The latter game was a huge surprise since Insomniac is already hard at work on the Playstation exclusive Spider-Man video game and now they’re branching out to X-Men characters.

The trailer, which was brief but effective, featured a bar torn to shreds. From behind we can see the plaid shirt and cowboy hate of Wolverine who is trying to enjoy a drink at the bar. Soon a baddie comes up behind him, his claws are drawn, and the trailer cuts to the titles.

It’s a cool trailer–watch it below–but it also features a few easter eggs comic book fans will appreciate. Check out the image with the easter eggs along with a description of each below.

Starting at the top left, we have the name of the bar Wolverine is clearly written on the chalkboard which reads “The Princess Bar.” This is a bar located in Madripoor and first featured in Marvel Comics Presents #1 way back in September 1988. Characters that popped up in this bar included Patch, Tyger Tiger, the Marauders, Morlocks, and Reavers too.

Moving to the right, we can clearly see a tourist poster for Madripoor which is further proof this game will have Wolverine fighting in the city. Heck, maybe the entire setting is Madripoor.

Then in the bottom right, a license plate reads HLK 181, which is clearly referring to Incredible Hulk #181 which is Wolverine’s first appearance. Whether or not this easter egg will mean Wolverine will fight Hulk in this video game remains to be seen, but if the game doesn’t let you fight Hulk what is even the point?!

Watch the trailer for yourself below.

Did I miss any easter eggs in this image? What the heck is this green thing on the right side?
