The Greenhouse

This film from the UK and Australia promises emotionally charged science fiction. The Greenhouse follows a woman as she travels back in time through a portal to revisit her childhood home, and precious memories after the death of her mother. 

Shorts Programs

Short film programs, particularly genre shorts, are easily my favorite thing about film festivals. This year’s Nightstream Film Festival offers 4 short film programs over the course of 4 days. 

Shapeless

Shapeless, described as a Cronenbergian thriller, is a psychological horror film about a woman with an eating disorder. With subject matter that is both tender and true to life, I’m looking forward to seeing this horror spin on the topic.

Folk horror 

This year has reminded me of just how amazing folk horror can be. Nightstream is providing four movies from the genre. A mix of family curses, urban legends, and protecting land by any means necessary, the films look to bring the unexpected horror and fun these films are known for.

The Taking 

Alexandre O’Philippe has directed some great documentaries about classic movies. His latest film does not take on one film, but an entire genre. The Taking looks at how the American Western has contributed to social myths in the country.

Cosmic Dawn 

Films about UFO cults are an easy source of horror. There have been plenty of real life incidents that have shown just how deadly things can get. Cosmic Dawn is about a young woman who must go deep into one such cult in order to solve the mystery of her missing mother.
