Nearly two years after it was announced, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon finally released its first teaser on Tuesday.
If you’re a Game of Thrones fan and still have no idea what’s going on, then don’t worry–there’s far too much material to pack into a one-minute teaser beyond some cool shots and a lot of atmosphere.
All you need to know at this point is that the series takes place approximately two centuries before George R.R. Martin’s popular (and still unfinished) book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. It is based on the second half Fire and Blood, which recounts a massive civil war among the Targaryens during their rule of Westeros.
As you might imagine, the war will feature lots of bloodshed and dragons (and one would assume a very large special effects budget).

While there’s no official release date yet, the first ten-episode season is set to release at some point in 2022. I know a lot of folks are still salty at how badly Game of Thrones ended (myself included), but it’s hard to deny how potentially great this series looks.
