‘Robins’ work out in new variant covers from DC Comics

ROBINS combines high-octane fighting action with a new mystery, an adrenaline-pumping run.

DC Comics has revealed new variant covers featuring Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne for the upcoming Robins series. The new series is launching on November 16th from creators Tim Seeley and Baldemar Rivas. Cover art is by Rivas, Babs Tarr, Nick Robles, Jen Bartel, and Marcus To.

Thanks to the Round Robin Competition, writer Tim Seeley had this to say about taking on the winning series: “I’ve been waiting to write all the Robins together since my Nightwing days! The chance to take this series straight to the fans meant we got to see the passion for these characters on full display, and I’m thrilled to work on it with Andrew, Baldemar, and Romulo!”

“I remember while working on Batgirl of Burnside, I wasn’t super familiar with who Nightwing was. I asked one of my writers ‘What’s the deal with this guy..? Why does our Babs have such a thing for him?!’” said artist Babs Tarr, about being tapped to draw the first variant, “And Brenden explained Dick Grayson to me, I sat back in my chair and said ‘I get it.’ hah. Ever since getting to do our romance issue with Nightwing, I too, will also always have, a thing for Dick Grayson.”

Wait, what’s Robins about?

As an unknown assailant claims to have been the first Robin, the flock of Robins must figure out who she is, and what it means to be a Robin.

ROBINS, winner of DC’s Round Robin Competition, peels back the domino mask on the realities and risks of being Robin. All five Robins are there: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne, brought together to fight crime and finally sit down and talk about whether being a Robin was a good idea… but they can’t even do that without being ambushed.

As an unknown assailant claims to have been the first Robin, the flock of Robins must figure out who she is, and what it means to be a Robin.

This new series from Tim Seeley and Baldemar Rivas includes some of the greatest athletes in the DC Universe—and to honor that, DC is launching each issue with a special work out variant cover. Run, don’t walk to grab Issue #1, on sale 11/16/21, with an amazing cover featuring the one and only Dick Grayson:

“I remember while working on Batgirl of Burnside, I wasn’t super familiar with who Nightwing was. I asked one of my writers ‘What’s the deal with this guy..? Why does our Babs have such a thing for him?!’” said artist Babs Tarr, about being tapped to draw the first variant, “And Brenden explained Dick Grayson to me, I sat back in my chair and said ‘I get it.’ hah. Ever since getting to do our romance issue with Nightwing, I too, will also always have, a thing for Dick Grayson.”

Issue #2 catches Jason Todd, AKA The Red Hood, on his way out of the gym as drawn by the inimitable Nick Robles.

And Issue #3 reunited artist Marcus To with Tim Drake.

About being approached for the cover, To said, “Tim Drake has been an important character for me. I would not be where I am today in my career were it not for our favorite Robin. Working on the Red Robin series back in 2010 was my first run on a DC title and it means so much to me. When DC approached me to work on the workout variant for Tim Drake, I jumped at the opportunity.”

Issue #4, drawn by Jen Bartel, catches up with Stephanie Brown at the gym, as she pursues those gains.

About the chance to bring this new Robins series to the page, writer Tim Seeley said, “I’ve been waiting to write all the Robins together since my Nightwing days! Artist Baldemar Rivas added, “I’m beyond thrilled to be working with an incredible team! Thank you everyone who voted for us and making this happen. Tim’s been cooking up something fierce with the Robins and can’t wait to show y’all!”
