“This is only the beginning…” the tweet reads. “Thank you do those who have experienced [Dune] so far, and those who are going in the days and weeks ahead. We’re excited to continue the journey!”
Dune, the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi epic, opened on October 22 in the United States, both in theaters and on HBO Max. Despite being available for no additional fee to HBO Max subscribers, the movie still brought in $41 million in tickets sales opening weekend. The movie has been receiving critical acclaim, especially for the theater (especially IMAX) experience.
Director Denis Villeneuve has stated in the past that a sequel was always the plan — the movie’s opening title card reads Dune: Part 1. It’s nice to see that Vileneuve will officially be able to continue working on his vision for the franchise.
Dune: Part 2 is currently slated for an October 10, 2023 release.
