The Wheel of Time is one of the most anticipated shows coming to Amazon. Based on the beloved series of books, the high fantasy story is filled with detailed lore, memorable characters, and a complex story. Though fans have been waiting for an adaptation for decades, it was also with the realization that it probably would not be given the care it deserves.
The upcoming series has assuaged some of those fears. The casting is top notch and all involved have talked about The Wheel of Time with respect to the fandom.
“You realize how big the community is and it is a little bit daunting,” Marcus Rutherford, who plays Perrin Aybara, told AIPT. “Any scrutiny comes from a place of passion because they want the show to do well.”
“It all comes from a good place and it is added support,” added Josha Stradowski, who plays Rand al’Thor.
The Wheel of Time is a dense story that takes place over fourteen books. It involves a number of characters and events that even the most ardent fan can have trouble keeping track of. It is one of the reasons the series is so popular, but it is also why the community has worried about any adaptation.
“When we started, we had really well written scripts,” stated Stradowski in reference to taking on the epic story. “The books also helped emotionally. They gave an understanding of who your character is.”
With any adaptation, there is going to be some hesitation. This is especially true for hardcore fans who do not want to see one of their favorites mishandled. Thankfully, The Wheel of Time looks to have everything in place for a strong series that fans will love.
