On Saturday, Sony released our first look at the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse along with an official title for the film: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One).
Obviously the “Part One” label means the story in this movie will be closely followed by another sequel. As for what that story is, the trailer doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on aside from the wonderful animation/tone we saw in the first installment.
We open with Miles Morales chilling in his bedroom when he receives a surprise interdimensional visit from his friend/crush, Gwen Stacy. After she discovers his drawings of her (and doesn’t seemed too bothered by it), Gwen asks Miles to join her for a web slinging session outside. When Miles says he can’t due to being grounded, she counters by asking if that means Spider-Man is grounded, as well.
From there, we’re treated to a sequence featuring Spider-Man hurtling into and through another dimension. Just when you think things can’t get any crazier, Miguel O’Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) teleports in, grabs Miles, and transports him to his own futuristic era.
Like I said, not much in the way of plot revelations, but still really good stuff. We already knew Spider-Man 2099 would play a part in this one, but it’s still exciting to see him show up looking as cool as us ’90s kids remembered.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will be released exclusively in theaters October 7, 2022.
