It was almost two years ago when we learned that Sony Pictures Television and Scholastic Entertainment were developing a new live-action series based on R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series.
On Monday, Joe Otterson of Variety exclusively revealed that Disney+ has ordered a 10-episode first season of the series. Rob Letterman, who directed the 2015 Goosebumps movie, will team up with Nick Stoller to write and executive produce the show. Letterman will also direct the first episode.

As for the plot, Otterman’s report provides a brief synopsis:
The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.
That might sound pretty generic, but the part about “their own parents’ teenage secrets” leads me to believe we’ll get some episodes that flashback to the 1980s and 1990s.
Does that era getting framed as the distant past make me feel old? Yes.
Am I still all types of excited to see it on screen with this franchise? Absolutely.
