‘Futurama’ is being revived on Hulu

Good news, everyone!

Futurama is coming back. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that nearly 10 years after the last episode on Comedy Central, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s beloved animated series will return for a 20-episode run on Hulu. Groening and Cohen will return, as will original voice actors including Billy West and Katey Sagal.

Groening and Cohen are “thrilled” to return to the world of Futurama. From the Reporter piece:

“I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future … or really anything other than the present,” Cohen said. Added Groening: “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”

Futurama debuted on FOX back in 1999, before being canceled by the network in 2003. However, due to strong DVD sales and a cult-like following, the show was revived in 2007 in the form of four direct-to-DVD movies through Comedy Central, who would eventually revive the show proper starting in 2010.

Futurama‘s new season returns to production this month, and is aiming for a 2023 premiere.
