It was announced today the Hero Initiative will be reprinting 2003’s acclaimed JLA/Avengers crossover in honor of George Pérez. The 288-page trade paperback will have only 7,000 copies made and can be found at participating comic book stores this March. The iconic crossover — the last one between Marvel and DC — has been out of print as a trade or hardcover collection since at least 2008.
George Pérez is a founding member of Hero Initiative’s board of directors and has served as chair of its Disbursement Committee. Pérez revealed in December 2021 he had a terminal cancer diagnosis with only six to 12 months to live. This is just one of many ways people have been honoring the comics legend with AIPT joining in as well to show our appreciation for Pérez’s work.
Distributed via Diamond Comic Distributors, the collection will feature 64 pages of companion content and will reprint introductions by original Avengers writer/editor Stan Lee and Justice League of America editor Julius Schwartz. A bonus in the Hero Initiative edition is a new afterword by Kurt Busiek. It’ll retail for $29.99.

Marvel’s Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski shared the news on his Twitter account along with an anecdote about the time Pérez cheered him up when he was a young boy.
Without a doubt, Pérez is an incredible creator that has influenced generations. Getting a new edition of the JLA/Avengers crossover is a great treat with funds going to a good cause.
