Early reviews of ‘Elden Ring’ are overwhelmingly positive

FromSoftware’s latest experience seems like it will be totally worth the wait.

FromSoftware’s latest “Soulslike” game, Elden Ring, launches this Friday, February 25 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows, but the early reviews are starting to pour in, and just as many hoped/expected, the game is being received exceptionally well. The title is currently sitting at a 97 on Metacritic, which aggregates reviews from trusted sites around the web.

  • Polygon called Elden Ring “FromSoftware’s best, most approachable, and difficult game yet,” calling it an “amplified” version of Dark Souls 3, while borrowing from other FromSoftware games such as Bloodborne.
  • Game Rant gave the game a perfect score, saying, “Elden Ring is a phenomenal game that will disappoint very few. It has most of the components that fans of the genre seek: a wondrous aesthetic, a feeling of mystery that invites exploration, skillfully designed and intimidating adversaries, and rich gameplay with a lot of replayability thanks to the various classes and builds.”
  • GamesRadar+ concluded that Elden Ring is “both a refinement and evolution of the Dark Souls formula, presenting an expansive world that’s as hostile as it is inviting. Despite the occasional excess, suffering has never been as much fun as this.”
  • IGN also gave Elden Ring a perfect 10/10 score, calling it “a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path.”

The general public will have to wait a few more days to experience Elden Ring, but it appears that the long wait will be totally worth it.

Elden Ring will be released Friday, February 25 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows. It is available for pre-order now.
