‘Top Chef’ season 19 Power Rankings: Week 1

Season 19 of Top Chef heads to Houston.

Another season of Top Chef begins tonight and this year the host city is Houston, Texas. We’ll be doing our weekly Power Rankings of the fifteen contestants to track who are the front runners to win the titular title.

Similar to last year, positions are determined by performances in the challenges with more weight going towards the elimination. Also, for this week only, the competitors’ honors and awards were taken into consideration since we’re not all too familiar with cast yet.

Last season finalist and local chef, Dawn Burrell, welcomed the new cast into the Top Chef Kitchen alongside Padma. The first quickfire divided the competitors into teams of three. They had thirty minutes, ten minutes each member in succession, to cook a dish that showcased and meshed their individual flavors and styles. The kicker is they were unable to plan or speak to each other the entire time. In the elimination challenge, they remained in their teams and had to create a meal with three cohesive dishes that highlighted a specific cut of beef.

Let’s take a look at the Power Rankings after one week.
