Over the weekend, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed Bill Skarsgård will be starring in reboot of the The Crow. His report went on to state that the film would be directed by Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell) with a script written by Zach Baylin, who was recently nabbed an Oscar nomination for his work on King Richard.
Justin Kroll of Deadline followed that up with a report that Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter FKA Twigs will be starring in the film, as well.
For those of you who didn’t grow up in the 90’s (or are simply unfamiliar with tragic film history), The Crow was originally a popular comic series written and drawn by James O’Barr. It was adapted into a 1994 film starring Brandon Lee (Bruce Lee’s son) as Eric Draven, a man who’s resurrected by a crow to take vengeance upon the people who murdered him and his fiancée.
While the movie was being filmed, Lee was accidentally killed when a trapped dummy round from a .44 Magnum was fired at close range into his stomach.
Following Lee’s shocking and horrific death, filming continued via the use of a stunt double and CGI. Lee had also finished filming most of his scenes. The finished movie ended up being a critical and box office success. Over the next decade, it spawned a number of subpar sequels along with a short-lived television series.
Since then, the franchise has had a number of false starts, including a previous reboot starring Jason Momoma that was scrapped back in 2018. Hopefully, fans of the franchise will finally get a worthy follow up project to the original that’s seen through to the end.
