Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 05/02/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks include an MCU finale, a popular franchise, and a fun musical comedy.

This week, our Channel Surfing TV picks include an MCU finale, a popular franchise, and a fun musical comedy. Watch if Ammit returns on the finale of Moon Knight. Follow along the adventures of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk became captain in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Then get the girl group back together again in a new season of Girls5ava.

What Is Real?

Moon Knight has been a breath of fresh air with regards to MCU content these past five episodes. It has incorporated horror elements along with Indian Jones-esque thrills as Steven Grant is drawn into a deadly mystery about himself and the Egyptian Gods.

Midway through, the series headed into an unexpected direction taking it to another level while making the viewer question what is really happening. To top it off, it also delivered a heavy and heartbreaking origin story of Marc Spector. Soon we’ll be able to see how all the moving parts come together and how it all ends in the last episode of the miniseries.

Stream the Moon Knight finale beginning Wednesday, May 4, on Disney+.

Something New Yet Familiar

Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike, captain of the Enterprise, played a major role in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Due to fan response, the character was given his own spin-off with Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, both of whom reprise their roles of Number One and Spock respectively.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place in a time not visited before in other series: in between Discovery and the original series. It has recognizable names including Dr. M’Benga and Christine Chapel along with legacy characters such as Nyota Uhura. But it presents these individuals in new ways and sets them off into new adventures. Our very own David Brooke gave the show a 10 in his first impressions.

The series premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is Thursday, May 5, on Paramount+.

Back 4 More

Girls5eva featured a 90s girl group who were one hit wonder pop stars. In the present, their song is sampled by an up-and-coming rapper bringing renewed interest in them and a chance to be in the spotlight again.

When we last left off, Girls5eva just gave a memorable performance at the high-profile Jingle Ball. In the second season, they plan to strike while the iron is hot and record a new album. Expect more tunes that are as comical as they are catchy.

The first three episodes of the second season of Girls5eva will drop, on of course, 5-5 (May 5), on Peacock.
