On Friday, Netflix released a new trailer for the fifth season of Cobra Kai. They also announced an earlier-than-expected release date of September 9, 2022.
Let’s take a look at the trailer again before breaking it down a bit.
The fourth season ended with a number of storylines on a potentially explosive precipice:
- Terry Silver (the bad guy from Karate Kid III) has taken over Cobra Kai, which just won the All Valley Tournament. He also paid off the refs to ensure their victory, which is very much on-brand for him. He now plans to franchise Cobra Kai throughout the Valley area.
- After observing empathy and growth in Kreese (his former star pupil), Silver framed him for violently assaulting Stingray, which leads to Kreese getting arrested.
- Tory, Cobra Kai’s star student, witnessed Silver paying off the refs and is justifiably angry/humiliated.
- Robby attempted to mentor a student named Kenny and ended up turning him into a monster. This failure led to him reconciling with his father Johnny.
- Instead of fighting in the tournament, Miguel went to Mexico to seek out his biological father.
- In an effort to combat Silver’s growing influence, Daniel asked for help from Chozen Toguhi, the bad guy from Karate Kid II who is now his friend/ally.

Cobra Kai Season 5 (Netflix)
- Daniel is all in on taking down Cobra Kai. He plans to include his daughter Sam in the mission, which is sure to cause even more friction with his wife Amanda.
- Johnny takes Robby with him to Mexico to look for Miguel, which sounds equal parts awkward and hilarious.
- Sam becomes even more of a badass.
- Daniel and Johnny are ready to team up again.
- Tory appears to be at the start of a reckoning over her past actions.
- Chozen is ready to rock & roll.
