Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 05/09/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week bring the laughs and love for the scares.

First, our Channel Surfing TV picks this week will make you laugh and then it will scare the pants off of you. Go on tour in the second season of Hacks. Almost thirty years after they went off the air, The Kids in the Hall return. Then celebrate the best of horror in film and television with the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.

Leaving Las Vegas

Hacks follows a legendary stand-up comedienne named Deborah Vance holding on to remain relevant in the present. She pairs up with Ava, a young writer who has her own baggage. When we last left the series, Deborah bombed her final show at her Las Vegas residency but saw the potential in the new material and wanted to go on tour. She and Ava reconcile but there is still the matter of Ava’s email slandering her partner.

The new season sees the main relationship continuing to evolve as they tour the country in the tight confines of a bus. If they can fine tune the act and make it a must watch, Deborah has the chance to earn another residency.

The season two of Hacks begins Thursday, May 12, on HBO Max.

Getting the Band Back Together

It seems everything from the 80s and 90s are coming back for another shot on screen and one revival arriving soon is The Kids in the Hall. The original members of the comedy troupe of the same name are returning and you won’t have to wait until late night to watch since you can stream it any time.

The new season will be comprised of eight episodes and will contain the edgy humor the sketch comedy is known for. They’ll be bringing back some fan-favorite characters along with hosting a ton of guest stars including Catherine O’Hara, Eddie Izzard, Mark Hamill, and more.

New episodes of The Kids in the Hall will debut Saturday, May 13, on Prime Video.

Showing Love for the Scares

It might not have the same prestige as the Oscars, but the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards are probably more fun. For almost 30 years, they have honored top achievement in the horror genre and 2022 looks to even be bigger as more categories have been added.

David Dastmalchian is set to host this year and he’ll introduce a whole batch of presenters that are a who’s who both past and present in the field. Some of the nominees include titles such as Candyman, Last Night in SoHo, and Midnight Mass.

Find out who walks away with a Chainsaw Award this Sunday, May 15, on Shudder TV.
