Marvel releases first image and synopsis for upcoming ‘Echo’ series

Production on the Echo series is officially underway.

On Tuesday, Marvel.com revealed that production on the upcoming Echo series has officially begun. The announcement was accompanied by a brief synopsis along with the first image from the show.

Echo

Echo (Marvel Studio/Disney+)

Although Echo was arguably underutilized in Hawkeye (especially for those of us who are big fans of the comic character), Alaqua Cox made the most of her screen time as one of the Kingpin’s top lieutenants. Considering what happened in the last episode of that series, it’s a safe bet that the character will spend at least a portion of her solo series dealing with some serious fallout.

Read the announcement from Marvel below:

Production is officially underway on Marvel Studios’ Echo, coming to Disney+ in 2023. Alaqua Cox returns to the role of Maya Lopez, who viewers first met in Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye — and the unforgiving deaf gang leader was determined to make Ronin, aka Clint Barton, pay for his own vengeful deeds. Find the first look image of Cox back in the role of Maya above!

Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward. Echo also stars Chaske Spencer (Wild IndianThe English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower MoonStumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation DogsAmerican Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX’s Reservation Dogs).

Episodes of the series are directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai). Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, and Jason Gavin (Blackfeet). Co-executive producers are Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King (Seminole), and Jennifer Booth.
