Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 05/23/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks include dinosaurs and two fan-favorite franchises.

This week’s installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks include dinosaurs and two fan-favorite franchises. See what life was like in the Cretaceous Period in Prehistoric Planet. Find out what the titular Jedi Master was up to between the prequels and original trilogy in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then prepare for the fourth season of Stranger Things.

When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth

Prehistoric Planet is the latest nature docuseries event from the BBC. It takes viewers on a journey to 66 million years ago to experience how our world once was. In this time, dinosaurs roamed the land, sea, and air.

Learn about little-known and surprising facts about the majestic beasts with episodes centered around specific habitats from coasts to deserts to ice worlds and everything in between. The latest in imaging technology brings the creatures from the past to life and the content is based off of the latest paleontology learnings.

Prehistoric Planet premieres today, May 23, on Apple TV+.

An Untold Story

In the Star Wars films, we have seen Obi-Wan Kenobi in two different stages of his life. In the prequels, he rises from a padawan into a full-fledged Jedi Master. Then in the original trilogy, he’s an elderly hermit residing on Tatooine who eventually begins training a young Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force.

The upcoming limited series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, looks to fill in the blanks in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. In it, the lead character must confront his biggest failure – the turning of his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, to the Dark Side. During the Empire’s reign over the galaxy, Obi-Wan must set out on a critical mission.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will be released Friday, May 27, on Disney+.

See You on the Other Side

It’s been quite a wait for new episodes of Stranger Things. Season three was released almost three years ago but we’ll soon find out what’s next for our group of friends. Though we are receiving the first seven episodes of season four this week, Volume two won’t be released until this July. But it’s still a significant amount of new content to binge.

The events pick up six months after the Battle of Starcourt with the survivors coming to terms with the fallout. Our heroes are separated, which makes going through high school that much harder. Meanwhile, another supernatural threat appears with a whole new horrific mystery. However, if solved, it might end the influence of the Upside Down on Hawkins once and for all.

Season four volume one of Stranger Things will be made available beginning Friday, May 27, on Netflix.
