Our next batch of Channel Surfing TV picks include a homage to a sci-fi classic, superheroes, and a beloved children’s game.

Our next batch of Channel Surfing TV picks include a homage to a sci-fi classic, superheroes, and a beloved children’s game. The crew from the Planetary Union return for more space exploration in The Orville: New Horizons. The titular group continue their war on supes and the Seven in the third season of The Boys. Then contestants complete a series of obstacles for prizes in Floor is Lava.

One Last Ride

The Orville is a series created by Seth McFarlane that originally premiered on Fox. The plot took inspiration from Star Trek as it followed the crew on a mid-level exploratory vessel that traveled through the galaxy to visit new worlds. The show is back for its final season on a new home.

When we last left the ship, we learned about the true intentions of Isaac’s people, the Kaylon. Also, the crew play with time travel and it’s unclear whether they were able to restore their original timeline. In New Horizons, we see the crew intact in a timeline and the Kaylon will still serve as antagonists.

The Orville: New Horizons will premiere Thursday, June 2, on Hulu.

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

The titular group of vigilantes in The Boys try to keep superpowered individuals in check and held accountable when they abuse their abilities. This has usually brought them into conflict with the Vought International backed supergroup, the Seven.

During the upcoming season, a year of quiet between the foes have been achieved. Homelander tries to repair his image after Stormfront’s secret past becomes public. Meanwhile, Butcher has been playing nice as a subordinate to Hughie. When the Boys discover an Anti-Supe weapon, old hostilities are renewed between the two sides and the key to the conflict is to find the very first superhero, Soldier Boy.

The first three episodes of The Boys will be released Friday, June 3, on Prime Video.

Don’t Fall In

The game The floor is lava has experienced a resurgence in pop culture. It has been featured in episodes of Community, Craig of the Creek, and Bluey. Netflix has even turned the popular children’s pastime into a game show in the zany obstacle course mold of Wipe Out.

Floor is Lava is back for season 2 with even bigger challenges including a huge but very slippery volcano that contestants must traverse. I’m sure it will result in many comical falls and stumbles. For the pro wrestling fans at AIPT, AEW superstars Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor, and Kris Statlander take a shot at conquering the obstacle course.

Stream all of the second season of Floor Is Lava beginning Friday, June 3, on Netflix.
