Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include a pair of new shows and a science fiction drama.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include a pair of new shows and a science fiction drama. The MCU gains a new superhero from Jersey in Ms. Marvel. The space race finds a new frontier in the third season of For All Mankind. Then, teen love is always complicated in First Kill.

Being Marvel-ous

Kamala Khan is one of Marvel’s most popular new characters. Several people helped bring her to life in the comics including Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie. It didn’t take long for fans to warm up to the publisher’s first Muslim character to headline a book because her story really resonated with readers.

This week, Ms. Marvel makes the leap onto our TV screens with her very own series. It explores what one of the Avengers biggest fangirls might do if she received powers of her own. Fitting in in high school is difficult enough before realizing you really are different from everyone else.

The series premiere of Ms. Marvel is Wednesday, June 8, on Disney+.

Mission to Mars

For All Mankind is an alternative history series that imagines how things would be different if the Soviets were the first to land on the moon. The space race would never have ended and following their failure, the U.S. would increase its efforts to ensure they wouldn’t lose to their Cold War adversaries again.

The new season jumps in time to the year 1995 and as indicated by the previous season finale, the focus will be on colonizing Mars. From the trailer, a new kid on the block, Dev Ayesa, will be competing with the two nations for supremacy on the Red Planet.

Season three of For All Mankind begins Friday, June 10, on Apple TV+.

The First is Always Special

First Kill begins with a common Romeo and Juliet type story. Two teenage youths, Juliette and Calliope, are members of two families that are sworn enemies. Through chance, they cross paths and begin to have feelings for each other. However, this version has more of a supernatural slant to it.

Based off of a short story of the same name from writer, V.E. Schwab, the series pits a monster hunter against a vampire. Both their parents pressure them into performing their “first kill” and they have their sites on each other. Things get complicated when they start a relationship but the pressures of their familial duties continue to linger.

Stream the entire season of First Kill this Friday, June 10, on Netflix.
