On Friday, Sony Pictures announced that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be returning to theaters on September 2 with a new version.

Dubbed Spider-Man No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version, the rerelease will also include added/extended scenes. It’s likely safe to assume this version will include the deleted scenes removed from the Spider-Man: No Way Home Blu-ray release in April.
The return to theaters also gives No Way Home a decent shot at reaching the #1 all-time domestic box-office record. The film currently sits at #3 domestically and #6 around the world. While out-of-control inflation will definitely be an obstacle, it’s worth remembering that No Way Home debuted this past winter during a COVID spike. Hitting theaters right at the end of summer (and against a very light slate of films) should balance things out — especially considering how much audiences loved No Way Home the first time around.
As for me, I definitely won’t be paying for a movie ticket to see the movie again. I’m normally a sucker for anything involving Spider-Man, but it’s extremely uncool that Sony promised there would be deleted scenes on the home release only to pull them for a chance to double-dip on their box office profits.
