SDCC ’22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

It may not be called Slave 1 anymore, but it’s still a great looking ship.

On Friday, Hasbro’s Star Wars team revealed new products for both their Vintage Collection and Black Series toy lines. Let’s take a look at what was shown and see if it’s worth adding to the shelf. We’ll start with the Vintage Collection, which recently got some much-needed good news when Hasbro announced that they would not be saddling the line with plastic-free packaging.

Also, please note that as of this writing, no retail price points have been posted.

Boba Fett’s Starship

Look, I’m annoyed that Disney won’t call it Slave 1 too, but let’s not let that take away from a great release. For the folks who don’t have this ship yet, it’s a perfect opportunity to get one that features enviable weathering and a flight stand.

Also, let’s not discount how fantastic that Boba Fett figure looks. It would be great if Hasbro released a similar single-carded version down the line at some point.

Boba Fett’s Starship (ugh) will be available for preorder on Saturday at 5:00 PM from most major retailers.

Cal Kestis

We all knew this was coming (especially after the leak from yesterday), but it’s still exciting. I don’t even play the games and I’ll likely snag one. Also, BD-1 has an articulated head and legs.

The figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

Luke Skywalker (The Mandalorian S2)

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

Didn’t think I’d ever buy another 3.75″ scale Luke Skywalker, but this one might break me — especially with that superb portrait.

The figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

Klatooinian Raider

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

It’s about time we were able to buy this figure separate from the $80 AT-ST set. Background and army builder aliens are always welcome, especially when the figure is this well-made.

The figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

Pipeline Reveals

  • Han Solo (eh).
  • Scout Trooper with Bike (meh)
  • All-new Phase 2 clone troper (bleh)
  • Admiral Piett (YES!)

Now let’s take a look at the 6″ scale Black Series reveals.

KX Security Droid

First off, yes, that’s the new plastic-free packaging you’re looking at. While I appreciate wanting to help the environment, this feels like more of a cost-cutting measure that will usher in a golden era for figure swappers.

Also, that figure is a repaint that I doubt most folks want. If you do, however, then it will be available for preorder on Thursday, July 28 exclusively from GameStop.

B1 Battle Droid

I can’t imagine ever wanting to army build Battle Droids in the 6″ scale. If you were going to buy just one, however, then this version from the Jedi: Survivor video game should be a strong contender.

The figure will be available for preorder on Thursday, July 28 exclusively from GameStop.

Grogu

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

I really don’t need another Grogu in this scale, but damn if that Mythosaur necklace and pram aren’t calling to me.

The figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM EST.

Migs Mayfeld (The Mandalorian S1)

While we can all appreciate the cool gun accessory that’s included with this figure, is it really that hard to capture Bill Burr’s facial likeness?

If you don’t mind owning a finely sculpted toy that looks nothing like its on-screen counterpart, the figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM EST.

HK-87

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

Not sure why Hasbro only released this one promotional photo of the product — especially since we CAN’T SEE THE TOY INSIDE THE BOX!

Ahem…sorry. Thankfully, Toyark got a decent photo of the figure as it appeared in Hasbro’s SDCC slideshow. Still not enough to make me want to buy it, but a cool-looking toy nonetheless.

HK-87 will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM EST.

Luke Skywalker (The Mandalorian S2)

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

Even at the Black Series’ current inflated price point, this version of Luke might just be too good to pass up.

The figure will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Saturday at 5:00 PM EST.

Axe Woves

SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals SDCC '22: Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

This one was left off the SDCC presentation, but did make the public announcement on StarWars.com. He’s also a great-looking figure who’s a must-buy if you have Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves.

No pricing or release info is available at this time.

Halloween Clone Trooper & Halloween Wookie

Not only is this a great concept, but Hasbro might actually have the figures available in time for their respective holiday — a feat they failed spectacularly at with the Winter holiday wave of figures. Sadly, the Wookiee (and his adorable Bogling companion) will be Walmart exclusive.

No pricing or preorder info at this time, but Hasbro may have roped me in on this one when it’s released.

Credit Collection

Hooray for more repaints!

All of these will be available for preorder Saturday at 5:00 PM except for Ahsoka, who will be available to preorder on July 26. Most of the Credit Collection is exclusive to one store or another, making them even more of a pain to track down — especially the Dark Trooper, who is a Hasbro Pulse and Shop Disney exclusive, but only Hasbro Pulse tomorrow.
