Everybody’s favorite blue hedgehog will be spin-dashing his way to the big screen a third time, as a third Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been confirmed.
The teaser gif shows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, so it’s safe to assume that in addition to Ben Schwartz, the voices of Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba will return for the franchise’s third outing. It’s unknown at this time whether or not Jim Carrey will return as Dr. Robotnik. Carrey has expressed how much he enjoyed playing the character, calling him “so much fun“, but back in April he claimed to be retiring from acting, saying “I have enough, I’ve done enough.”
2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog, the first film in the series, grossed $319.7 million on an $85 million budget. Its sequel, 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, grossed $402 million on a $100 million budget.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is currently aiming for a December 20th, 2024 release.
