On Wednesday, toy sites JediNews and Yakface revealed Hasbro’s first Black Series figure to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi. This one is a retro-inspired version of Admiral Ackbar that is…something.

The figure is a UK/EU Convention Exclusive that will be available at MCM Comic Con in London from October 28-30. Limited supplies will then be released to the general public on November 2.
That’s the first deterrent to making a purchase.
The price is also listed as £29.99, which translates to an outrageous $36.44. Even if this figure isn’t saddled with Hasbro’s faux deluxe price point, however, $24 is still absurd.
For starters, the deco is terrible. I get that this is supposed to look like the original Kenner release, but that shouldn’t mean that Hasbro gets to skimp on paint apps and still charge full price. For an example of doing this sort of release the right way, look at the retro Obi-Wan from just a few years ago.
It also doesn’t help that Admiral Ackbar looks like he just realized he left the burner on and won’t be home for another eight hours.
With a 3.75″ scale figure, this sort of release can be passed off as charming (although I still say it’s not worth your money). But for a 6″ release that may also carry an inflated price tag? No way.
