Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

In a week full of great comics, which five were the very best of the best?

It’s Friday, and you know what that means: it’s time for Fantastic Five, where we here at AIPT give props to the best comics of the week! This week has a little bit of everything: some indies, some Big Two, some #1s, and some milestones. Let’s check ’em out!

Daredevil #2 (LGY #650)

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

Daredevil #2 (LGY #650) is an excellent issue that is worth the celebration, and I think that ending will give many fans something to talk about. You’ll discover new layers to Matt’s life and gain a unique insight into why they happened. This new villain is a formidable adversary who hits Matt right in the religion. All this is wrapped up in beautiful art by current and past creators.

X-Men #13

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

X-Men #13 is a really good fight comic. It sets up the team’s goals for the issue, has them commit to those goals, works together, and keeps the stakes high. In some sense, the battle in this issue is self-contained though reading the main event is highly recommended. X-Men is a good tie-in, but an even better team book.

Barbaric: Axe to Grind #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

Barbaric: Axe to Grind is like if Conan the Barbarian and Heavy Metal Magazine had a baby. Throw in dynamic character moments straight out of Saga, and the series’ return is a welcome one as it brings forth the violence and the charm of these bastard characters that deserve our attention.

The Silver Coin #13

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

The Silver Coin #13 is so scary it may be too much for some, making it a must-read experience for horror aficionados. If the themes of motherhood and miscarriage are too much, I implore you to skip this, but for those willing to push themselves in seeing how far visuals can raise your pulse, I recommend you check it out.

Batman: One Bad Day – The Riddler #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 17, 2022

An excellent start for the One Bad Day series, as Tom King and Mitch Gerads deliver a compelling psychological thriller about one of the greatest villains the Dark Knight has confronted.
