Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 09/19/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks for the week are a revival, a fictional reboot, and a prequel.

We have an interesting assortment for our Channel Surfing TV picks this week because we have a revival, a fictional reboot, and a prequel. Prepare for time traveling adventures to correct the past in Quantum Leap. The cast of a popular sitcom from the past get a second chance at relevancy in Reboot. Then, see the origins story of the Rebellion and the super spy of Rogue One in Andor.

Remaking History

Scott Bakula’s Dr. Sam Beckett started his “Quantum Leap” project to shed light on his theories regarding time travel. He became the test subject when his funding is threatened and embarks on an adventure through different eras to correct events that have gone awry.

Nearly 30 years later, Dr. Ben Song restarts the project to understand its mysteries and as well as the man who started it. Song soon finds himself in a similar journey lost in time with the help of the hologram, Addison, who brings level-headed precision to the job. Can he find his way back home?

The series premiere of Quantum Leap is tonight on NBC.

Another Shot at Comedy

As demonstrated in our first TV pick, Hollywood likes to mine old properties and repackage them in a way to seem brand new. Steven Levitan, the co-creator of Modern Family, addresses this trend in the new comedy, the appropriately named Reboot.

The fictional sitcom, Step Right Up, originally aired in the early 2000s. In the present, the series is getting remade with the original cast, but they were all so dysfunctional the first go round, that there are still many unresolved issues. We’ll see if they can put aside their differences to ensure a successful run this time.

Stream the first three episodes of Reboot beginning Tuesday, September 20, on Hulu.

The Start of a Rebellion

We first were introduced to Cassian Andor in Rogue One, when he and a group of unlikely rebels work together to steal the Death Star plans to aid the Alliance. Since it’s unlikely we’ll ever receive more stories of the intelligence officer after the film’s events, going back to his origins is the next best thing to dive deeper into the character.

The story takes place five years before Rogue One and follows Andor has he changes from a skeptical petty thief into a passionate revolutionary leader. As he ascends into a man of great influence, we also witness the rise of the Rebel Alliance with a familiar face or two from Mon Mothma to Saw Gerrera.

The first three episodes of Andor will be released Wednesday, September 21, on Disney+.
