On Thursday, Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Knock at the Cabin, an upcoming horror film directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The movie is an adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World, which is really good. It’s also incredibly tense, which can definitely be said for the film adaptation’s trailer, too.
Although we don’t know yet if the movie will do its source material justice, the trailer does a great job of laying out the story. Basically, a married couple and their adopted daughter decide to take a vacation at a secluded New England cabin. After briefly enjoying their time together, they end up being terrorized by four people wielding bizarre instruments and claiming to have all shared a vision of an imminent apocalypse. To prevent the world from ending, the group tells the family that they must make an unthinkable sacrifice.
Lest you think this is just four crazy people menacing a beautiful family, all is definitely not as it seems.
I won’t reveal any more about the plot, but let’s just say that this story is a perfect fit for M. Night Shyamalan when he’s on his game. If the trailer is any indication (and the film adaptation stays mostly true to the source material), then Knock at the Cabin could easily be one of the director’s best.
