Representation was the theme of NYCC’s MARVEL’S VOICES: The World Outside Your Window panel as it’s the goal of the line of comics.
As upcoming Miles Morales: Spider-Man writer Cody Ziglar said, “I’m stoked to see more black folks making shit,” and the audience inside room 401 very much shared that sentiment.
The first announcement was for Marvel’s Voices: Wakanda Forever. It’ll celebrate black history month by spotlighting the heroes of Wakanda, like Black Panther and Shuri. Next up was the announcement of Silver Surfer: Ghost Light, written by John Jennings. It’ll be his first Marvel comic and will resurrect Al B. Harper, a physicist from 1969’s Silver Surfer #5 who sacrificed his life to save the planet. He’ll return as the new hero, Ghost Light.
Bishop: War College will star an all-black X-Men team tasked with defending Krakoa. In a recorded video message, writer J. Holtham said, “There’s going to be some time travel, war games, and black X-Men” to raucous applause from the audience.
Bloodline: Daughter of Blade will see writer Danny Lore continuing their work with Bloodline after Crypt of Shadows #1. Lore got emotional when talking about going to see the first Blade movie with their father and realizing he was a character their father grew up with. Lore wants to “[build] the world to make it look more like the people I grew up with” and will look to do that with next year’s Bloodline miniseries.
Lastly, a new Marvel Infinity comic for Marvel Unlimited was announced. Marvel’s Voices: Nova #20 will be available next week and feature a space adventure co-starring Viv Vision.
