NYCC 2022: ‘Star Trek: Picard’ panel reveals two returning villains for Season 3

Catch the trailer for Star Trek: Picard season three along with the reveals from the NYCC panel.

The Star Trek: Picard panel at New York Comic Con only featured one actual cast member from the series’ first 2 seasons, Sir Patrick Stewart himself. But he was not alone; he was joined by pretty much the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, all returning to their roles for Star Trek: Picard’s final season.

The panel also screened a trailer for season three that included a few key new plot points and three different villains, one new and two returning. The audience now knows to expect Brent Spiner to reprise his role as Lore, Data’s sociopathic brother. But Daniel Davis is also back as Professor Moriarty, the first-ever known Holodeck character to gain full consciousness and sentience, and the first to be recognized as an true independent life in The Next Generation episode “Elementary, Dear Data.” He returned once more in that series as a foil for Picard in the episode “Ship in a Bottle.”

Little is still known about Amanda Plummer’s new villain Vadic other than her ship is named The Shrike and she’s out for revenge against Picard. It’s also unclear if there’s a reason The Shrike loosely resembles Nero’s ship in the film 2009 Star Trek or if that’s just a design coincidence.

Plummer is the daughter of the late actor Christopher Plummer, who memorably also played a Trek villain, General Cheng in Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. Is there a blood feud between the real life Plummer family and any ships named Enterprise? Viewers may find out when the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard begins on February 16th on Paramount+.
