‘Batman & Superman: Battle of the Super Sons’ premieres at NYCC

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons releases on October 18th on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray.

Audiences at New York Comic Con were given a full screening of the upcoming DC animated film Batman & Superman: Battle of the Super Sons on Friday ahead of its October 18th release. Focusing on the biological sons of DC’s most iconic heroes, this is Warner Brothers Animation’s first fully CG-film.

The screening was followed by a panel of cast a crew. According to Producer Rick Morales and Writer Jeremy Adams, this project has been a long time coming – Morales had the idea five years ago. “It was sort of a no-brainer to me that this was something that needed to be done, Morales said. “It’s just such a great dynamic the characters have. It’s a good way to approach Superman, I think. And so I had it in my head for a while and kicked it around as something that may be something I’d like to pitch or do something with.”

The film tells the story of Lois Lane’s and Clark Kent’s 11-year-old son Jonathan Kent coming into his Kryptonian powers and learning about his family legacy for the first time only to then have to team up with Damian Wayne, Batman’s biological son, to save the world.

The tone of the film is reminiscent of ’80s adventure films like The Goonies or Monster Squad, while also being heavily inspired by Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie from 1978.

“I was so excited to play this character,” Jack Griffo (Damian Wayne) siad. “And for it to be animated to, the voice, getting into that pre-Batman-esque feeling was really, really fun for me.

“These are childhood fantasies come to life,” Jack Dylan Glazer (Jonathan Kent) said. “This is my world. I grew up being a ginormous fan of the DCEU. Batman was my guy. Batman was my hero.”

Laura Bailey played Lois Lane before in the recent animated film Injustice, and reprised the role for this film. But this time she’s playing opposite her real-life husband, Travis Willingham, playing her husband and the Man of Steel.
