Flashpoint Beyond #6

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 19, 2022

Wow! There is so much happening, but what’s even wilder is the fallout! I am happy to have witnessed the journey of Thomas Wayne and the risk Bruce Wayne took, but there is so much more to explore, and I can’t wait to see DC Comics’ future. Terrific story by such a league of talent!

Mindset #4

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 19, 2022

Mindset would’ve been on the list of best series of the year on the strength of its art and premise alone. The theme of cell phone and internet influence over our free will is incredibly important to our modern-day life. But, coupled with the thrilling story of big tech mystery and the multilayered exploration of existential themes, I would argue that Mindset is the very best comic series of the year.

GCPD: The Blue Wall #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 19, 2022

If you’re looking for a police drama rooted in a reality much like ours, check out GCPD: The Blue Wall #1. This series humanizes its characters while reflecting on real-world concerns of defunding the police and putting too much power into a cop’s hands. This first issue is flawless, smart, and anchored by the hard-boiled setting with deeply human characters.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of October 19, 2022

What else can be said about this issue? Buy it. I loved it so much. It may be a heaping helping of fan service, but it’s the kind of fun, innocent fan service that makes you excited to be a fan in the first place. It’s so cool to see new life breathed into these concepts and characters that have been largely abandoned by the franchise. Barnes and Lawrence did a great job here, and they seem to work together very well as a creative team. I cannot wait for more issues of this to see where it goes.
