On Thursday, Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.com reported that Michael Gandolfini has been cast in a major role for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+.
Nothing is officially known about the role yet, but Andreeva’s sources say he might be playing “an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam.” This tracks with what Charlie Murphy at Murphy’s Multiverse has heard about the role, as well. Although the smart money is on Gandolfini playing some version of Richard Fisk (son of the Kingpin Wilson Fisk), part of me kind of hopes the code name “Liam” points to him being named Leland…aka Leland Owsley…aka The Owl.
Yes, the character has already technically appeared and died in the MCU, but a person can dream.
As for Michael Gandolfini the actor, most folks will recognize him from his role as a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark. Although he didn’t have many acting credits before this role, his performance was good enough to start landing him much bigger parts in multiple other projects.
Now Gandolfini will be part of one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated projects ever when it debuts in 2024.
