‘Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty’ #7 is Cap comics at their best

The more this plot with the outer circle unfolds, the better this title gets.

Ever since this run of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty kicked off, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Carmen Carnero have solidified themselves as a force to be reckoned with as far as Captain America teams are concerned. The first six issues have been both a breath of fresh air and a humbling return to form for Cap’s comics, sending him back to where he grew up to uncover some important lessons. The fallout from the last issue’s ending immediately starts, with Steve spiraling to a depressing place after Bucky’s actions left his arm in a sling.

While the first few issues were largely focused on Steve and Bucky, issue #7 finally brings in the rest of the quintessential “Cap” crew. Sharon Carter’s appearance in this book is everything her fans have hoped for, showcasing her spunk, her softer side, and her no-nonsense approach to work. It’s a treat to see her like this and it almost feels like something out of Brubaker’s legendary run. Seeing the whole Cap crew come together and work to take down this new threat is so good, I’m not even annoyed by the presence of Peggy Carter for once.

Carnero’s pencils on this book are a dream – each character looks the part and are so expressive you practically feel their emotions alongside them. Sentinel of Liberty has been, from the start, a force to be reckoned with. The book only gets better with each issue and you can tell this creative team adores the characters they are getting to write. For Captain America fans, this series is once again an absolute must-buy and if we’re lucky, Lanzing, Kelly, and Carnero will get to spearhead more Captain America books in the future.
