Hopefully our Channel Surfing TV picks can help you usher in the new year. School is back in session with the return of Abbott Elementary. Clone Force 99 takes on more mercenary work in the second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Finally, things go awry out on the ocean in The Rig.
Reading Is Fun
This week, a number of broadcast television shows come back from their midseason hiatus. Among them is the critical darling and Emmy winning series, Abbott Elementary. After their winter break, the kids are ready to hit the books.
On the next episode, there is a second-grade rivalry as Melissa and Janine’s classes go head-to-head in a read-a-thon sponsored by a local pizza shop. Will the two get carried away with the competition and lose track of what’s really important, their students? Also, Jacob and Gregory try to get some schoolchildren to join their new podcasting club.
Abbot Elementary resumes Wednesday, January 4, on ABC.
On the Run
When we last left Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the crew barely escape the destruction of the clone facility on Kamino. In addition, their brother and former teammate, Crosshair, reveals that he wasn’t under the influence of his inhibitor chip and decides not to rejoin the group.
In the new season, Clone Force 99 will take even more jobs that will take them to dangerous places where they will cross paths with characters that are both familiar and new to the Star Wars Universe. Actress, Wanda Sykes, is set to make her guest starring debut on the show voicing Phee Genoa.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch will have a two-episode season two premiere Wednesday, January 4, on Disney+.
Cut Off from the Mainland
The Rig takes place on an oil platform in the ocean off the Scottish Coast. The arrival of a strange fog prevents communication to the mainland and leaves the crew stranded. Magnus, the rig boss, must keep everyone level headed in order to get through the crisis
There is already tension between the rank-and-file workers who are placed in danger and the corporate representatives who want the oil to keep on flowing. However, the unnatural forces at work could prove too much to prevent the tensions and paranoia from rising.
Stream the entire first season of The Rig beginning Friday, January 6, on Prime Video.
