Happy New Year! It’s 2023 and with a new year comes New X-Men as Chris and Chandler explore Grant Morrison’s iconic relaunch of the X-Men in 2001. Considered one of the best new storylines of the history of X-Men comics, Grant Morrison introduced us to Cassandra Nova with a paired down team of Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean, Emma, and Beast. What a great time to revisit this series in the new year!
New X-Men #114 was published in July 2001. In that same month:
- The top film at the time: Jurassic Park 3
- The top song at the time: “Lady Marmalade” by Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Pink, Maya
- The original “The Office” debuts on BBC
- SDCC moves into the San Diego Convention Center for the first time
- “Spirited Away” releases in Japan and later goes on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Film
- “The Princess Diaries” premieres launching the career of Anne Hathaway
