Listen to the latest episode of the AIPT Television podcast!

The Hulu original, Only Murders in the Building, follows three unlikely friends living in New York City who love true crime. Charles (Steve Martin), Mable (Selena Gomez), and Oliver ( Martin Short) get themselves entangled in a real-life murder which prompts them to start their podcast as they attempt to solve the mystery in the apartment they live in.

The previous season revealed who killed Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell). With Mabel and her gang off the hook, it’s evident from the ending we’re about to solve another murder in season three. In season two episode ten, we see how these two culprits planned to get rid of Bunny for their selfish reasons. We also find out who glitter guy is and how he is connected to the murder. But it doesn’t seem like Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) will be relaxing anytime soon.

This Hulu original has garnered several Golden Globes nominations and won three Emmys, so the excitement around this show has never been so warranted. Fans are thrilled to see what this mystery gang has in store for season three.

If you’re curious too, here are all the details we know about Only Murders in the Building season three, from the cast to the release date and plot!

Only Murders in the Building Season Three Release Date

Only three episodes into season two, it was announced by ABC entertainment president Craig Erwich that the Hulu original series was renewed for a third season. Thanks to Steve Martin, we know that filming for the new season started on January 17th. He shared a post on Twitter captioned “The filming of season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building” has begun! A cast to dream of”. And we want to be part of those dreams if we will get these legendary faces on screen together

While seasons one and two were released in August 2021 and June 2022, it’s not so far-fetched to assume that weekly episodes of season three might hit your screens in the late summer of 2023.

Only Murders in the Building Season Three Cast

Whether it’s because of this show’s success, or Selena Gomez, there has never been a shortage of famous faces on set. And we don’t expect that to change. With celebrities like Amy Schumer, Cara Delavingne, and Tina Fey, making an appearance, we’re sure stars are lining up to get a role on this fun mystery-filled show.

Returning cast members include Steve Martin as Charles Haden Savage, Martin Short as Oliver Putnam, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams, and Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora.

If you watched the season two finale, you probably spotted Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd. He plays Broadway star Ben Glenroy. With his debut on the show only raising more questions for whats to come, at least we will see more of him in the next season.

In an interview with Variety, co-creator John Hoffman said that Paul Rudd’s character was someone they want to see more of in the upcoming season. But we don’t know whether he will be a series regular just yet. Paul isn’t the only superstar addition to the cast you should expect to see.

If you’re not following Selena Gomez on Instagram, you better rectify that if you want to get the latest updates about the show. On her Instagram, Selena Gomez dropped a bombshell of news about a new cast member joining season three. None other than the talented and legendary Meryl Streep.

The reel featured Selena seated on a couch with co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, before the camera pans out to Paul Rudd and eventually Meryl Streep. Selena captioned the post, “I could cry season three is coming”, And we will be in tears right next to her for the twists and turns we expect with this fantastic cast. Although we don’t know her role in the upcoming season, we are excited to find out.

Only Murders in the Building Season Three Plot

Season three will likely have ten episodes like its predecessors. Although it won’t be enough to soothe our hearts, less than 15 episodes seems to be the new normal for good quality shows these days. With the previous seasons ending setting up the story for another murder to solve, it seems Oliver could be roped in to this new crime drama set outside the Arconia.

With a one-year time jump at the end of season two, it will be exciting to find out what’s been going on with our favorite characters. Charles and Oliver are working together outside the podcast, and they seem successful. Brazzos’s acting career is picking up, and Oliver is back directing on Broadway, which was always his dream. Even Mabel appears to be completing the renovation of her apartment -FINALLY! (I am personally excited to see more of her unique style in her space)

While season one focused more on Mabel’s story and her relationship with Tim Kono, season two was mainly about Charles and his emotions surrounding his complicated relationships. With his father and ex-bassoonist – Jan ( Amy Ryan) and season three might finally be about Oliver. From what we saw at the end of season two, will he be the next in the group to be accused of murder?

The last episode of season two introduces us to Broadway star Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), who ends up as the latest victim of the murders in this fabulous city. Ben and Charles exchanged some harsh words, moments before he collapsed of an alleged poisoning. So Oliver is already a person of interest. Stepping away from the spinning doors of the Arconia will be a nice change of pace too.
