‘Animaniacs’ cast interested in a ‘Pinky and The Brain’ movie and tease Season 3

Maurice LaMarche, Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, and Tress McNeil talk about the upcoming season of Animaniacs.

It’s time again for Animaniacs! Season three of Hulu’s revival of the iconic, Steven Spielberg-produced series is upon us. And as I did last year, I sat down with the voice cast to discuss the show and some of their favorite highlights from the new season.

First, I spoke with Maurice LaMarche (Brain) and Rob Paulsen (Pinky, Yakko Warner). “I’ve always been very interested in the idea of doing a feature with Pinky and The Brain,” Paulsen told me.  “I really believe that Pinky and The Brain have both the pedigree and the strength of their characters and the way that they relate that it could be a movie.”

“This Brain is ready to use death threats,” LaMarche said, teasing a darker Brain this season. “He’s ready to be militaristic; he’s sick and tired of having not taken over the world for the past 22 years. So he’s got more of an edge.”

Paulsen also referenced an upcoming Groundhog Day-inspired Pinky and The Brain segment as well as one he described as a sister episode to the Pinky and The Brain Christmas Special from the series’ original run. “I can speak for [LaMarche] and say it is both our favorite episode from the first batch,” Paulsen said. ” In the video above, Paulsen also goes on to reference a new Yakko, Wakko, and Dot song to motivate Santa.

This may be the same song I heard about when I interviewed Jess Harnell (Wakko Warner) and Tress McNeil (Dot Warner) next. “I have one of my favorite songs we’ve ever done in the new season,” said Harnell, “which is a Christmas song about Santa Claus.”

Harnell and McNeil also brought up a favorite segment this season that involved their characters being rendered in computer animation. “A lot of the time, with these roles, they sort of become you and you become the roles,” Harnell said. “We absolutely are Yakko, and Wakko, and Dot. Tress is adorable, but she’s sharper than the average bear. Robby’s the song and dance man of the classic variety. And I basically just wanna hit stuff, eat stuff, and not wear pants.”

Animaniacs season three premieres on Hulu on Friday, February 17th.
