‘Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty’ #11 is another big win for Cap fans

This is truly shaping up to be one of the great Cap runs in every category.

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty has been a blast from day one and issue #11 is no different with Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Carmen Carnero bringing their A-game once more.

Roger’s death is still disappointing, and though I’m holding out hope that he somehow survived, seeing the impact he had on the team actually be referenced was a nice start. Comic book deaths are so common that sometimes I’ve noticed stories just start to kill off characters and move on immediately. Seeing Roger get remembered fondly on page and actually addressed after death was a nice start and hopefully we get to see his legacy honored more (and judging by the mantle Sharon is supposed to pick up, that’s likely the case).

This issue doesn’t dig too deep into Bucky or Peggy’s double agent roles, but they are certainly teased a little bit, giving us a satisfying taste of what’s to come. The tension is certainly building to an exciting point with their respective arcs and it seems like Lanzing and Kelly are only pushing the needle further on those scales in the near future.

Steve and Sharon getting some nice, domestic downtime is sweet and knowing they are going to be moving in together in his Brooklyn apartment is a nice touch and certainly well earned. Steve and Sharon are that comic couple that’s been together forever and are basically synonymous with each other but for some reason aren’t married yet (they have each proposed to each other at least once at this point, it’s crazy), so this is an exciting way to move such an iconic pair forward in some meaningful way.

The biggest joy in this issue is easily the final page, which reunites Steve and Sharon with their son, Ian Rogers. The idea of seeing them interact with their son in the next issue is just too good, as is the building plot involving him and Sam Wilson’s Captain America when the two Caps collide for the future Cold War event.

Lanzing and Kelly are certainly still having fun in their sandbox, but Carmen Carnero’s pencils are not to be overlooked. She was certainly a great artist on Hellions, which was undoubtably one of the best books of the Krakoa era, but she’s really letting her creativity soar to new heights with Sentinel of Liberty.  The action sequences shine once more and her panel layout is beyond eye catching. This is truly shaping up to be one of the great Cap runs in every category.
