Loki Season 2: Everything you need to know

Here’s what you can expect about the new season of Loki which arrives later this year.

Fear not! The God of Mischief returns to your screens with the second season of the Tom Hiddleston-led Marvel series, Loki. With scheduling changes and Jonathan Majors’s real-life drama, many were skeptical about whether Loki season 2 would be released in 2023. But being it’s the first Marvel series to get a second season, there were bound to be hiccups along the way.

But it seems Loki variants always rise above their trouble and make a triumphant return. Although they’ve died in multiple timelines because of their rash actions they always manage to survive. And with Sylvie ( Sophie Di Martino) plunging the multiverse into chaos by killing He Who Remains ( Jonathan Majors), it only seems right for a Loki variant to attempt to fix things. And that’s the adventure the upcoming season has in store for fans, so here is everything you need to know about Loki Season 2!

Loki wrapped filming in London on October 2022. Earlier rumors suggested the series would be released in mid 2023 but better late than never, right? Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Loki Season 2 will be released on Friday, October 6, at the Disney 2023 Upfront Event.

Feige also revealed that season 2 will have only six episodes, just like season one. And it would progress similarly to Loki season 1 with an episode releasing every week.

Loki Season 2 Cast:

As usual with Marvel, they keep details about upcoming projects under wraps until they want to share. But obviously, Tom Hiddleston will return as Loki in the second season.

You’ll be happy that Sylvie, another Loki variant and Loki’s love interest, will return for season two as well. Leaked set photos revealed that she was on set with Tom Hiddleston, wearing a McDonald’s Employee uniform. Hopefully, we will see more of their growing relationship this season. Owen Wilson also reprises his role as Mobius, with Wunmi Mosaku returning as Hunter B-15 and Eugene Cordero as Hunter K-5E.

Despite what is happening in his personal life, Marvel hasn’t released any news regarding recasting Jonathan Majors as Kang. They’re probably waiting to see how it all plays out in court. According to the leaked trailers, he is still in a large portion of Loki season 2. But he surprisingly didn’t appear in the season 2 trailer released on May 16 at Disney Upfront despite being the show’s main villain. Feige also didn’t mention Jonathan Majors in his presentation.

Revana Raynslayer, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, will also return in Loki season 2. She told Popculture.com she was excited for her character to go to deeper and darker places. Another TVA fan favorite who will make a comeback is Miss Minutes, voiced by Tara Strong.

Ke Huy Quan from Everything Everywhere All At Once joins the cast of Loki season 2 as a time librarian in the TVA. Rafael Casal of BlindSpotting also joins the cast in an undisclosed but significant role. Kate Dickie from Game of Thrones will also appear in an unspecified role in Loki season 2.

Loki Season 2 Plot:

Loki and Sylvie

Loki season 2 will pick up right where season one left off. He Who Remains is supposedly dead, and Sylvie and Loki have been separated. He Who Remains was the creator of the sacred timeline and the TVA. Although killing off thousands of variants who tasted free will initially seemed cruel, according to He Who Remains, the sacred timeline was a necessary evil to protect the multiverse from the other Kang variants, who now roam unchecked after his death.

Loki appears to be in a new timeline after Sylvie sends him into another dimension so she can kill He Who Remains. Loki ends up in the TVA headquarters but in a completely different timeline where Mobius and the rest of the team don’t remember the first season’s events. In this universe, it’s not the timekeeper’s statues he sees but a giant Kang statue in the TVA headquarters, suggesting a new Kang variant has taken over.

According to the trailer released at Disney’s Upfront on May 16, Loki seems to be glitching and literally pulled through time because he isn’t supposed to be in that  timeline. That’s why Loki seems to be the only one to recognize Victor Timely as a Kang variant and Mobius doesn’t when they’re on a  mission chasing down his Variants in the 1800s.

Loki tries to convince Mobius and Hunter B-15 of the danger of Kang and the council of Kangs. They find Victor Timely, popular in the comics for wanting to kill the Avengers by going back in time and changing history.

The almost scary tone of season 2 will see Loki traveling to different timelines trying to warn others. Because he is the only one who recognizes Kang and with the multiverse war already started, Loki seems to be the only one who could save them all.

Is there a trailer for Loki Season 2?

Fans have only gotten glimpses of what’s to come in Loki season 2. At Disney’s D23 Expo, a first-look teaser trailer titled ‘Feels like Home’ with a Tom Hiddleston voiceover was released. This clip also features shows like The Mandalorian, The Great, and Secret Invasion. Marvel hasn’t officially released the Loki season 2 trailer online.

How is Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Related to Loki Season 2?

Kang the Conqueror

At the end of Loki Season One, fans were introduced to Kang Variant, He Who Remains but another Kang was introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, Kang the Conqueror. But Kang the Conqueror had other plans for the multiverse. He wanted to traverse the multiverse destroying entire timelines to prevent his different variants from causing more harm before the other Kang variants trapped him in the Quantum realm. But Ant-Man and his family were able to stop him before he could enact his plan. But with no dead body is Kang the Conqueror really gone?

The end credit scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania saw fans introduced to the Council of Cross-Time Kangs (thousands of Kang variants), who seemingly wanted to stop the Avengers and other heroes from tampering with the multiverse now that Kang the Conqueror was dead. These are likely some of the Kang variants that Loki will have to deal with in season two now that the multiverse war has started. Loki Season 2 will help set the events for Avengers 5: Kang Dynasty
