Paramount’s CG-animated adventure film featuring karate, crime-fighting ninja turtles from the sewers of New York City is making its way to the big screen in August! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters have existed since the 80s when Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created their first comic book series. Since then, these turtles have gained worldwide fame with animated series, games, and blockbuster movies introducing us to pizza-loving teenage heroes living in New York.
Although we’ve seen numerous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films, this new TMNT film was first announced in June 2020 with rumors that Seth Rogan was attached as a producer. This would be a reboot of the martial artist turtles Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, and Michelangelo as they finally reveal themselves to the human world. With recently released trailers and more interviews, a lot has been revealed about this animated film. Read on to learn what to expect from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Release Date
Mutant Mayhem is set to debut in theaters on August 2, 2023. It was set to be released on August 4, but this date was later changed.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Cast
While the cast of this animated film will feature young rising talents, there are also some big names attached to star in the movie. The young actors voicing the mutant turtles include Shamon Brown Jr as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Micah Abbey as Donatello, and Brady Noon as Raphael.
While these young stars are fairly new to such big projects, they will be under the leadership of the Master himself, Jackie Chan, who voices Master Splinter. What better action star to star as their martial arts teacher and father than the talented Jackie Chan? A role he’s played in other films, so it’s close to second nature.
Other characters set to appear include April O’Neil, voiced by Aya Edebiri, known for her work on The Bear and Big Mouth. Fan favorites Bebop and Rocksteady will also appear in this film, voiced by Seth Rogan and John Cena, respectively. Other stars attached to this film to voice mutated animals include rapper Ice Cube, Hannibal Buress, Post Malone, and Rose Byrne from the X-Men franchise. Breaking Bad fans will also be happy to know Giancarlo Esposito will voice the possible main villain, scientist Baxter Stockman.
What Will Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Be About?
According to the official synopsis, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem follows the turtles breaking out of their shell as they try to win the hearts of New Yorkers by trying to help them. As part of their human world, they run into April O’Neil, a reporter who helps them take on the crime syndicate but ends up fighting an army of mutants they didn’t know existed. Producer Seth Rogan said that he was going for a more youthful tone with this movie focusing on the teenage aspect of these mutants.
In an interview with Collider in 2022, he found it weird that the other TMNT films didn’t hone in on the teenage element, which was exciting for them to work on. Considering Rogan got his start in a teenage movie and has found success working on numerous teenage movies, fans are in for a thrilling ride with this film. Although the movie’s central villain hasn’t been confirmed, from the trailer and the cast details, it’s evident our favorite turtles will be in for a ride.
Is there a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Trailer?
Yes. The first teaser trailer for this movie was released on March 6. The trailer released by Paramount and Nickelodeon has been well-received thanks to the impressive animation, action, and a peak to the movie’s plot. Although it doesn’t share much, we see the comic-like animation style and our favorite mutant turtles in all their glory.
Another trailer was released on May 31 and leaned more into the Mutant aspects showing fans other mutants living in New York. Apart from the turtles, we also see Master Splinter and his relationship with his ‘sons.’ These karate ninja turtles have an awesome and fun dynamic, giving fans much to be excited about in this upcoming film. It’s gearing up to be one of the summer’s best movies.

The first reactions flooding the internet come from an unfinished screening at the Annecy International Film Festival, followed by a six-minute standing ovation. From the comments below, returning to the turtles’ roots was the best direction this movie could take.
The fact they showed an unfinished cut of Mutant Mayhem this many months in advance and it’s getting all these great reviews is a sign that Paramount is confident as hell in this movie. Definitely paying off, we may have something VERY special on our hands… #TMNTMovie pic.twitter.com/C3PuPLAPU2

These early positive reviews are great for the upcoming live-action movie and an animated tv series being produced by Rogen; hopefully, these projects won’t suffer the same fate as Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles film.
