IGN had the scoop that Iron Man and Emma Frost might be tying the knot. They revealed the two walking down the aisle in a pretty double-page splash by Lucas Werneck. The wedding appears to occur in X-Men #26 and The Invincible Iron Man #10 this fall. Both series are written by Gerry Duggan.
“Neither seems like the marrying type,” Duggan told IGN. “Why this works, and how this works and how much fun this is whether their marriage works or not will need to be seen to be believed and you’ll have to buy it to find out. They certainly don’t seem like they’re ready to be married to anyone, let alone to each other, but life can change quickly.”
Sounds like whatever this marriage is, it’s likely a sham or some kind of mind manipulation.
In X-Men Monday #197, Duggan talked about the development specifically:
AIPT: Careful! Now, X-Fan Michael said Tony Stark and Emma Frost have a very interesting relationship with one another. At one point, they were lovers, and at another point, enemies. What can you tease about their relationship in Invincible Iron Man and what can we expect from them moving forward?
Gerry: They were never lovers. What is this question? It’s bullshit. I’m sorry, Michael, but you’ll just have to read our story. It’s not like we’re going to actually go through with this horseshit marriage.
Duggan continued with IGN, “While both are image-conscious public figures, I have to say I don’t know that either would care what the public thinks. Love is love. That said, while they have little in common, they are both capitalists with a capital ‘C,’ so perhaps that’s a commonality that will allow their marriage to thrive.”
