This week, Sony released the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter, which stars Pietro Maximoff Aaron Taylor Johnson as the classic Spider-Man villain.
In case you haven’t seen it yet (and you have three minutes of your life you don’t mind losing forever), it’s embedded below along with Sony’s official description of the film.
Kraven the Hunter is the visceral story about how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Set before his notorious vendetta with Spider-Man, Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the titular character in the R-rated film.
As a huge Spider-Man fan who was actually intrigued by the first trailer for Morbius, I currently feel no desire to see this.
I’m fine with a character’s origin being changed. I’m more than fine with a B-list character like Kraven (don’t @ me) getting their own movie. But aside from that final shot previewing Alessandro Nivola as the Rhino, nothing about the trailer feels worth getting excited about.
Some of the action shots look cool, but it’s doubtful this can be turned into a compelling movie for comic fans or general audiences. I would love to be wrong and will gladly eat crow if I am.
Kraven the Hunter is slated for release on October 6, 2023.
