#5: Hellcat #5

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of July 26, 2023

Hellcat sticks the landing in a darkly beautiful concluding issue, leaving Patsy in a very interesting place for future stories. This hellish psychodrama has been one incredible character study, and I hope we don’t have to wait too long before we see her again.

#4: Bone Orchard: Tenement #2

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of July 26, 2023

With a meditative pace, Tenement continues to flesh out its protagonists even as they slide into the uncanny and horrible. As ever, this installment spurs the reader’s hunger for more, however veiled and withholding the story might be.

The Last Days of Lex Luthor, then, seems to be a perfect distillation of the characters, one made undeniably meaningful in its construction. I can’t wait to see how insightful the rest of the series will be. Despite its alternate reality, The Last Days of Lex Luthor explores the very hearts of its characters and their relationship.

Game-changing superhero comics are few and far between, yet X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023supersedes expectations and will blow you away. If you’re a lover of the Krakoan era of making more mutants and the dream of a utopia, this issue will be a very hard pill to swallow, but it’s hard to deny, with so much being shaken up in a single issue, that we’re about to embark on an exciting new era that hasn’t been this exciting since the dawn of the Krakoan age. Packed to the brim with action, intrigue, and intense drama, X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 changes everything.

Continuing off the heels of horror and intrigue introduced by Superman and Supergirl’s adventures in Knight Terrors: Superman #1, this was a strong set of horror stories from two writers who aim to push the Heroes of Tomorrow into new and impressive heights.
