Knight Terrors is nearing its conclusion. The four-issue miniseries Knight Terrors comes to a close in this issue, but the event itself won’t come to a close until Knight Terrors: Night’s End next week. This issue will fill you in by showcasing Insomnia’s origin and amplifying the danger. Joshua Williamson teams with Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, Caspar Wijngaard, and Frank Martin to keep the terror going. How will readers react to Insomnia once they discover his reason for hating the Justice League?
In this issue, Joshua Williamson treats us to some twists, turns, and reveals. Insomnia’s new threat gets a spotlight on this issue as we learn his origins. After reading the issue, all I could wonder was if the origin story was true. Since this portion of the story played as more of a setup for a trap instead of the heroes being successful, could the origin story also be a trick? How the issue presents itself will make you want to return for more with the finale. Yet, the comic was pretty light in content that it probably could have been added to a previous issue for a more substantial impact.
That’s not to sell the issue short – Knight Terrors #4 contains a rousing confrontational fight scene between Deadman and Insomnia. These two characters play off each other nicely, and it would be great if Insomnia becomes part of Deadman’s much-needed rogues gallery. Some of Insomnia’s powers get feature pages at the start, as we can see how he’s trying to trick our trio of heroes. Damian’s pages are fun and evoke those horror tropes of playing with your sense of reality and feelings. Deadman’s page is great for playing with ex-girlfriends and wants, but sadly we didn’t get a temptation for Wesley Dodds.
The Deadman introduction pages get a different beat in this issue when Insomnia increases the terror. The page’s vibe is scary, as it feels like Deadman is hopeless. That helps to expand on the threat of Insomnia, which is building up that conclusion for me. The art team did an excellent job focusing on character reactions. The art did an awesome job showing the wants in the character faces from their nightmares’ temptations. Insomnia’s origin was sad, and the pain and letdown were played perfectly on the page. The color use was perfect as it helped augment Insomnia’s emotions.
Insomnia reveals his motivations and origins in this issue as things twist and turn for our heroes. Deadman is at a loss, and Sandman is captive, so who will save the day? The conclusion is nearing as Knight Terrors set up real-life nightmares for the DCU coming true.
